We’re a licensed general insurer in New Zealand – overseas policyholder preference

First Title is under the auspices of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. For all New Zealand claims, an overseas policyholder preference applies.

Under Australian law, in the event of First American Title Insurance Company of Australia Pty Limited being wound up, its Australian assets must be applied to its Australian liabilities, before New Zealand liabilities.

Therefore, New Zealand claimants would be required to wait until all Australian claims against First American Title Insurance Company of Australia Pty Limited had been settled.
